“Yeah, Ethan brought those over this morning.” She sighed. “He really does care about you.”

I swallowed. “I really care about him, too. He is such a great guy.” I sounded like Dylan when he talked to Adam about me. Could this situation be crazier?

Amy looked at me sadly and patted my hand. I wondered if she was secretly happy she only had her boyfriend Paul to deal with. Five boyfriends would be way too much for anyone. I never asked for this responsibility.

“So, the shop is okay, then?” I asked, trying to avoid any more talk of earth and my elemental responsibilities. I climbed into bed as Amy brought in my overnight bag.

“Yep. Moonbeam has been here the last couple of days organizing the new fall stock, and I’m taking over the rest of today. Mildred will be by tomorrow, Rose the day after, and then Harriet. But you know I’ll be by off and on as usual. The shop is doing great, Ella. No issues, although customers are asking how you’re doing.” She continued to bustle about the room, fidgeting with the plants.

I settled back onto the pillows and watched. She hadn’t stopped moving around since she came in. “Are you okay, Amy Lou? You seem a little agitated.”

“Oh, I’m fine, just so—” She stopped and fluttered her hand around her face.

“Amy! What is it? What’s wrong?”

“I was just so worried!” she blurted out and tried to cover her face with her hands. Big crocodile tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Oh my gosh.” I got up and walked over to her. “Come here.” I put my arms around her and gave her a hug. “I’m so sorry to upset you, Amy Lou. It’s such a relief no one was hurt.”
